Over the break I headed home to Beechworth to do some final building and testing on my jet. While I was down there I took some video of the Jet running that can be watched by clicking on the images below.
This first video is of me starting the engine and running it for a while. The sound, though it came out a bit funny in the video, is really cool. At the end there's a shot of a set of scales, which measure the thrust being produced, as the engine is accelerated and decelerated.
This video is, I think, the more impressive of the two videos posted here. It's a video of me spraying a jet of water from a garden hose into the exhaust of the engine as the engine's running. The result gives a pretty good indication of the volume of air being pushed through the engine.

You sure have a lot of thrust! I like the water spray in to the jet stream. Otherwise it is almost invisible. Imagine someone just strolling along and then... Surprise! You've just been thrusted.
Impressive!
Ash mentioned last night that he was still working on a name for the thuster. Any ideas, Hodgo? Or Ash - did you settle on something?
How about FreeBird?
No, still haven't come up with anything. I'll probably use the name in my thesis so it should be something that won't sound too out of place in a technical paper. Any ideas anyone has are very welcome cause I'm writing it over the next few weeks...
Nice demo' today, Ash. I know that you'll get a mass of spectators if you advertise your next display a little more widely.
sounds much better than the engine of any car that i can afford!
Demo' on today? What time is that? I will try for the seminar, but I'm not sure that I'll be able to get out of here in time.
Should be around 1245 today. No dramas if you can't get to the presentation, the demo will be more interesting anyway.
Anything happened since September last year?
Did your jet kill you?
